As I post this Tortellini with Crab Sauce Recipe, I’m dreaming of going to Italy.
I heard from Foodbuzz that Barilla is having a contest with a grand prize being a trip to Italy!
I grew up in a pretty traditional Asian family, so eating Italian food was not much of an option for me. Then as I became independent, I discovered all the wonderful flavors Italy had to offer. I created this recipe using my basic favorite ingredients. I love filled pasta like tortellini, but I knew my family would not eat it if I paired it with the wrong sauce. I had to create something my whole picky family would like. They like tomato sauce and crab. And I like cooking with Marsala Wine, so I created a tomato based crab sauce. I chose Barilla’s Three Cheese Tortellini to go with my crab sauce. Here’s my recipe.
Ingredients:
6 oz Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini
1 1/2 cup Barilla Tomato and Basil Sauce
1/3 cup Marsala Wine
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
2 oz chopped onion
6 oz Crab Meat (I used claw meat)
Fresh Basil (optional)
Parmesan Cheese (optional)
Makes about 3 servings
Cooking Instructions:
Step 1: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the tortellini for about 10 minutes.
Step 2: While the tortellini is cooking, make the crab sauce. First chop the onion and mince the garlic. Heat a pan. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in olive oil. Then add the crab meat and mix well for about a minute.
Step 3: Now add the Marsala Wine and reduce to medium low heat. Let the mixture simmer for 5 to 10 minutes and let most of the alcohol evaporate.
Step 4: Next add the tomato sauce. Once it starts to bubble, add the cream and stir well.
Step 5: Add fresh basil if desired. Drain tortellini and toss with the crab sauce. Top with parmesan cheese and serve with garlic bread.
